Ian Whadcock to judge the 3×3 International Awards

Ian Whadcock invited to judge the student section of the 3×3 International Illustration Awards 2016

We invited New York based Charles Hively and Sarah Munt of  3 x 3 Contemporary Illustration Magazine and Creative Quarterly, to visit the School of Art in November 2014. Charles was on a brief stop over in London on his way back from delivering a keynote paper at the Joseph Binder Design Symposium in Vienna. After touring the studios and spending time with students looking at artwork in progress, he delivered a forthright lecture on the current position of illustration in the USA, professional practice issues on approaching US art directors and concluded with a repeat of his Vienna IH8War presentation with partner Sarah Lunt. This part lecture/part performance focused on the responsibility of illustrators to engage with real world issues and use their design skills to actively campaign for change, primarily targeting ‘war’ as the broad conceptual anchor.

Charles has built on that initial contact by inviting Senior Lecturer at Manchester School of Art, Ian Whadcock to act as a Judge in the Student section on this years 3×3 International Illustration Awards. The judging will take place in April/May 2016.

The Awards are chaired this year by illustrator James Yang New York.
